Those who came after Herodicus and Hippocrates were such ardent supporters of medical gymnastics that each one considered it an essential part of medicine.

Requirements

New York State licensed massage therapists or other licensed healthcare professionals must submit the following:

1. Registration form with $400 deposit

2. Proof of age (must be 18 years or older)

3. Completed Swedish Institute health certificate

4. Evaluation form from a healthcare professional

5. High school diploma or college transcript or degree, if you have attended college, or proof of a GED (educational background should include basic algebra.

6. A passport-style photo

7. Proof of current professional licenses

 

All other applicants must submit:

Submit the above, plus documentation that you having met the prerequisite classes. If you have taken at least 16 credits of anatomy and physiology, you may submit a transcript. Courses will be evaluated to determine if they meet the standard for our program. A challenge exam must also be passed. If the courses have not been taken, prospective students may take the classes in the Massage Therapy Program at the Swedish Institute, either prior to or while enrolled in the Personal Training Program.

 

International Students

In addition to 1 through 7 above, graduates of schools outside of the U.S. must provide certified translation(s) in English of high school transcript(s), and an evaluation of transcript(s) to show equivalency to U.S. educational standards. In addition, they may need to take a TOEFL test if English is not their native language.

 

Current students in the Massage Therapy Program:

Current students in the Massage Therapy Program may enroll in the Personal Training Program, provided they have completed Anatomy and Physiology I and Myology & Kinesiology. They must also have a 3.0 GPA in science classes and be in good standing in all other classes. If they meet this criteria, they may submit a Registration form with a $200 deposit.
