The Lillian F. Phillips LibraryThe Lillian F. Phillips Library at the Swedish Institute is a modern reference and lending library located on the sixth floor. The library offers an extensive selection of current books and periodicals, as well as audiotapes and videotapes. There is also a valuable collection of rare and historically significant books, dating back to the 1890's, used when the school was founded in 1916. Books are classified using the Library of Congress call numbers and can be located by searching the computer database. The current catalog has over 2,000 holdings listed. ServicesThe library is open for reference and study during the following hours when classes are in session: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM Saturday 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM The library is open to all students, staff, faculty and alumni who have valid school identification. Graduates who wish to use the library can provide either an old student i.d. card or their date of graduation, which will allow verification of their status as alumni. The Placement Office at 212.924.5900 ext. 142 will be happy to help graduates update their information so they can take advantage of library services. Graduates can also contact the library at 212.924.5900 ext. 134 for further information on using the facility for research. The computers in the library have Internet access for students' use in doing research for assignments. There are also monitors with headphones for viewing videotapes. In order to serve students who are visually impaired or blind, the library has been equipped with special computer software that can enlarge text, scan and read text, or read information aloud from the computer and Internet. There are also tactile textbooks and tactile anatomical charts. The CollectionThe library offers an extensive collection of books, periodicals, audiotapes and videotapes that support the study of both Western and Eastern approaches to health care. The collection is very up-to-date, with texts, periodicals and other research materials carefully chosen by the Dean for Academic Affairs of each program and the Chairpersons of departments within the programs. Faculty, librarians and members of the administration also recommend books and other materials based on their own practices and research in a given field. Written in 1978 as a master's thesis on the spiritual nature of intentional touch and massage. Jeffrey C. Yuen. Alchemical Qi Gong.
