Laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened ... institutions must advance also...

Degrees and Programs

Although acupuncture and massage therapy are so ancient they seem timeless, the current world-wide awakening to their value in human health makes them exciting fields to be in today.

The Swedish Institute's College of Health Sciences offers degree-granting programs in Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, a certificate program in Personal Training, and Professional Continuing Education. Our faculty consists of some of the most experienced practitioners and teachers in the field, many of whom have pioneered the changes taking place today.

Massage Therapy Program

Our Massage Therapy Program consists of 61.5 credit hours and leads to an Associate in Occupational Studies degree. Full-time students complete the program in 16 months and part-time students finish it in 32 months. The program fulfills New York State's professional educational requirements for licensure as a massage therapist.

Acupuncture Program

Students who successfully complete our Acupuncture Program receive a Master of Science degree in Acupuncture. The full-time program is completed in three years; a part-time program takes five years. The program fulfills New York State's professional educational requirements for acupuncture licensure.

Personal Training Program

The Personal Training Program prepares students to take national examinations for personal trainers and exercise instructors. The twenty-week part-time program is designed to provide a strong foundation in exercise principles developed through scientific research, as well as the hands-on skills needed to create safe and effective fitness programs.

Professional Continuing Education

The Continuing Education department of the Swedish Institute offers year-round courses for licensed massage therapists, licensed acupuncturists, personal trainers and certain other health care professionals. In these professions, practitioners take classes not only for the information they provide, but also for the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues.
